LONDON: Maj. Gen. Yousef Huneiti, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of Jordan, discussed security developments in the Middle East with US Sen. Joni Ernst, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
The meeting on Sunday focused on ways to strengthen military and defense cooperation between Jordan and the US, including joint training and knowledge exchange, according to the Jordan News Agency.
The Jordanian Armed Forces have intercepted dozens of drones and missiles fired from Iran that breached the country’s airspace after Tehran’s conflict with the US and Israel began in late February.
After diplomatic talks failed and the war resumed last month, Jordan intercepted several Iranian missiles targeting US troops stationed at Muwaffaq Salti Airbase in Azraq, in the eastern part of the country.
US Ambassador Jim Holtsnider, the defense attache in Amman and several senior JAF officers attended the meeting, held at General Command headquarters in Amman.
