JEDDAH, 28 August 2005 — A Saudi researcher has criticized the random placement of commercial centers in Jeddah, reported Al-Eqtisadiyah newspaper. Moustafa Al-Taweel stated that more than SR1 billion had been spent on a number of the commercial centers in Jeddah, but many of them remained empty and were not capable of attracting consumers. The researcher argued that a field marketing study revealed that the main reasons for commercial center failures is the absence of feasibility studies in accordance with recognized standards; randomness in choosing location; the absence of future vision; focus on material success; primitive marketing; centralized control and blind imitation.
