KARACHI, 22 March 2006 — The Karachi docks police have registered a case against the Indian Navy for killing a Pakistani fisherman. According to the docks police, the Indian Navy ship opened fire on a Pakistani fishing boat identified as Al-Kulsoom Saturday. The fishermen were fishing along the border area in the deep sea. When the firing took place, a fisherman, Abdul Rahman, was saying his Fajr prayers. The 50-year-old Rahman was shot twice, while the six other men on the boat ducked and sought cover in the lower parts of the boat. The injured fisherman died before he could be given medical treatment. The boat reached Ibrahim Haidery jetty on Monday and Rahman’s body was taken to hospital. The police lodged a case under section 302 of the PPC against the Indian Navy on the complaint of the boat’s captain, Asad Jamal.
