The education of children has been accorded an important place in the Islamic teachings. Even children have a natural tendency to collect new and interesting information. Besides, studying textbooks, they also like to do general reading. They learn, even during their childhood, didactic tales from their grandmothers. Psychologists also agree that the tendency among the children to listen to stories is a natural urge. However, the type of reading material currently available in Urdu literature tends to create psychological and emotional problems among the children instead of uplifting them morally and intellectually.
Today’s scientific world has contributed to this body of children’s literature by adding science fiction and illustrated stories, which do nothing to elevate them intellectually. Moreover, they lack moral content. There is also an acute shortage of clean literature based on true tales from the Holy Qur’an, Ahadith and Islamic history, which could impart depth of vision among the children. The sole objective of these books is to provide interesting reading material and nothing else. Realizing the need for clean and uplifting literature, Darussalam embarked on this literary venture to strengthen the moral foundation of the children. The objective is to bring out a series of books with the help and cooperation of technical experts, educationists and scholars.
They constitute our editorial board, which not only verifies the authenticity of these historical episodes, but also presents them in an intelligible manner for children. Darussalam, in line with its publishing traditions, has ensured that these children’s books are appropriately illustrated to make the reading material interesting and attractive. This makes this series a unique effort in this direction.
