Al-Atrash Playing Cosmopolitan Woman

RIYADH, 20 August 2006 — Syrian actress Lilya Al-Atrash announced the completion of her work in the serial film Bab Al-Harra directed by Bassam Al-Mulla, the Al-Watan daily reported yesterday.

She plays a sensible working woman who tries her best to balance between the inconsistent demands of family life and office work. Her marital life becomes all the more miserable while she has to put up with the deteriorating relations between her own parents and in-laws.

Tash 14 Begins Filming in Kingdom

DAMMAM, 20 August 2006 — Saudi actor Radi Al-Mahana will start shooting the domestic scenes in the Saudi comedy serial Tash 14, the Al-Watan daily reported yesterday.

He has already completed shooting other scenes in the film in Syria. Radi plays an obstinate man unwilling to accept modern changes and progress.

He said he completed another serial two weeks ago with Saudi director Fahd Al-Hayan. His role in it was that of Abu Ali who is an eccentric comic figure.

UAE Set to Unveil First Narrative Film

CAIRO, 20 August 2006 — The United Arab Emirates will present its first narrative film, “Taran Fashen,” fully-shot from the region’s sites, in the Panorama section of the Alexandrian Film Festival, the Al-Watan daily reported yesterday.

The Sultanate of Oman has also chosen this Mediterranean festival, which will start on Sept. 5, to launch its first film “Al-Boum,” jointly produced by the country’s ministries of information, finance and culture.

The festival will have 14 Arab and foreign films in its competition section. The entries include Moroccan film “Al-Nazra” directed by Nuruddin Lakhmari, Egyptan director Muhammad Ali’s “Laaba Al-Hobb,” Syrian Nidal Al-Dabas’ “Tahat Al-Saqaf” and Lebanese director Joana Hagi’s “Yaum Al-Akhir.”
