RIYADH, 12 October 2006 — Moroccan actress Maysa Maghrebi will shortly start shooting her second movie with a cast drawn mainly from the Gulf and Egypt, the Al-Watan daily reported yesterday.

“This movie has several twists and surprises,” Maysa, who did not disclose the name of the movie, said while also denying reports that her first movie “Tarb Fashan” was a flop.

“’Tarb Fashan’ was not a failure as some newspapers reported,” she told the Arabic daily.

“Unfortunately ‘Tarb’ was attacked with the aim of abusing me personally. It was clear from the fact that my detractors did not offer any constructive criticism of the movie.”

She added that the movie was attracting large number of viewers in movie theaters everywhere.

Maysa’s comments came after a report in the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Qabs, which said that the Kuwaiti Information Ministry did not approve the movie because of its controversial subject: The film portrays homosexuality and criticizes Bedouin societies.

Maysa and director Muhammad Daham have said that the gay scene could be removed if it was objectionable. They also deny that the film portrays Bedouin culture in a bad light.
