JEDDAH, 14 November 2006 — People whose cell phone batteries have a tendency to go flat at unexpected times of the day will now be able to take advantage of a new initiative by Saudi Telecom’s Al-Jawal division to establish over 30 public recharging booths across Riyadh and Jeddah.
The booths, which look similar to ATM machines, charges batteries within five minutes and also carries out an ionic disinfection of the phone. The new initiative is being carried out for a trial period and will perhaps spread to other cities.
Jameel Al-Mulhim, marketing manager of Al-Jawal, said that the service is free of charge and would be useful for people whose cell phone batteries die at critical times. He also gave assurances that the machine was tested by major cell phone manufacturing companies before being set up. This was done with an aim of guaranteeing their safety and efficiency.
Ten machines are available in eight public places in Jeddah: South Mall, Aiman Land Theme Park, Sawary Landmark, Al-Najjar Shopping Center, Heraa International Market, Seirafy Mega Mall, Hilton Hotel and Dreams Marina Resorts.
In Riyadh, the machines are set up in Al-Rimal Center, Al-Othaim Mall, Le Mall, Al-Khaima Mall, Star City theme park, Euro Marché Shopping Mall, Al-Hokair Land Theme Park and Al-Aziziya Mall.
