DUBAI, 30 November 2007 — UAE’s fourth airline — RAK Airways — took off its first flight to Dhaka yesterday.
The full-service airline will fly to Dhaka three times a week, and plans to increase the frequency of flights in the near future. The airline also plans to fly more destinations, including cities in the GCC countries, India, Nepal, and Tanzania, within three to six months. RAK Airways will be operating Boeing 757s for its start-up operations. “I am pleased to announce that RAK Airways has taken off on its inaugural flight. We have been working very hard to achieve this milestone and are proud to contribute to the economic development of Ras Al- Khaimah” said captain Khalid Almeer, chief operating officer of RAK Airways.
RAK Airways plans to undertake transcontinental flights over the next two to three years, and aims to cover about 20 destinations within the Gulf, South Asia, Middle East and East Africa.
Sheikh Saud ibn Saqr Al-Qasimi, crown prince and deputy ruler of Ras Al-Khaimah, was working behind the project for two years.
The new airline of Ras Al-Khaimah is viewed as a key economic development project of the emirate which has been implementing a developmental strategy focused on tourism and industrial investments.
Established in February 2006 under a decree by Sheikh Saqr ibn Muhammad Al-Qasimi, member of the UAE Supreme Council and ruler of Ras Al-Khaimah, RAK Airways will operate both charter and scheduled services.
