THIS nasal patterns, while wielding the microphone, may have created die-hard fans out of many. But composer-singer, Himesh Reshammiya’s wild ride doesn’t quite end just there. Aside from a soaring number of fans, Reshammiya, who made a hugely publicized acting debut in the wildly titled ‘Aap Ka Surroor’, now has some of the budding singers trying to emulate him.
One of them is Saheb Altaf Khan, a 10th grade student of International Indian School-Jeddah. He is now one of the common singers at music programs. He sports the cap just like Reshammiya and reproduces his hits in the Bollywood composer-singer-actor’s style, drawing all-round claps and cheers from the listeners.
“I have not limited my renderings to Reshammiya’s songs alone. I have been singing the hits of other leading playback singers including Sonu Nigam, Sukhwinder, Atif Aslam, Udith Narayan, Vinod Rathod and Kishore Kumar as well,” he says.
Saheb, 15, who had no formal training in singing, said: “I found a singer in me when I started singing six months ago. I hope to get trained in music once I return to Mumbai after finishing my class 10 board exam.”
Singing came to him naturally. Once while he was humming a Reshammiya number, his teacher said: “You sing well and you have a voice similar to Reshammiya’s.” This actually encouraged him to practice songs at home and appear on local platforms.
“And now, I have been promised a break in Bollywood. A couple of music composers have assured me that they will use my singing talent for their forthcoming movies. I am most likely to sing for producer Junaid Memon’s next movie project ‘Karachi Express,’ which is based on Indo-Pak friendship.”
“Sabri Brothers have also given me a similar promise,” said Saheb who is a karate buff and holds a brown belt.
