Vacation Peace of Mind
Most online resources tell you the positive points of a vacation destination. Negative information usually focuses on expensive hotel rooms or poor service. Rarely do destination websites inform travelers about crime at a recreation location or how to avoid becoming prey for local criminals.
Safe Traveler (www.safetraveler.com) is a new service that aims to give consumers comprehensive travel safety, destination and cultural information that was previously only provided to businessmen traveling on behalf of multinational corporations. Safe Traveler draws on the network of intelligence resources and proprietary system of data sorting and evaluation from iJET Travel Intelligence to compile information that is actionable, timely and pertinent to over 200 countries and thousands of destinations and makes it available to consumers through easily accessible and affordable reports.
“It is the combination of up-to-the-minute travel-related information and interactive technology, along with travel experts who provide relevant background and advice, that separates Safe Traveler from other companies or government agencies,” stated John Holchin, executive vice president of Safe Traveler. “The approach to data gathering and evaluation is granular, meaning it reflects not only the larger safety issues but also those most relevant to travelers. We even provide cultural information and guidance to ensure travelers understand local customs. This reduces anxiety, helps people to avoid problems and allows them to more fully enjoy their travel experience.”
In addition to the destination information and travel advice designed to improve traveler safety, the company works with iJET to produce real-time reports, which include exclusive information on local weather conditions, security alerts and status, health care concerns and issues, cultural background and updates, exchange rates and currency issues, local legal guidelines and alerts, entry/exit (visa) requirements, localized transportation updates and alerts, communications and technological information, environmental concerns, financial alerts and tips, language briefs, as well as updates on current local political conditions.
What Happened to Your Resume?
You applied last year for a job or you posted your resume with an online career service. Where is that resume now?
Fraud involving employment applications is on the rise. This can take the form of individuals being offered nonexistent jobs in exchange for a fee or the outright theft of personal information from resumes.
Job applicants are being advised that resumes circulated as part of an initial job search should contain a limited amount of personal information. Birthdate, national ID numbers, high resolution photograph, home address, references and family information should never be included in a resume that will be used for a general job search. If possible, such information should only be provided verbally, if requested, during the job interview.
It is also a good idea to set up a free e-mail account which only will be used during the job search. In this way an individual’s primary e-mail account isn’t compromised and there could be an early warning if resume information has been co-opted for criminal activity.
New Resellers Required for ESET
ADAOX Middle East, the master distributor for ESET in the Middle East, is appointing new partners and resellers in Saudi Arabia to help promote its security products. The company, which recently opened its new office in Dubai Internet City (DIC), will provide its new channel partners in-depth training and support in selling ESET’s solutions across the Kingdom.
The new channel partners and resellers will be linked to Zedan Solutions (www.nod32.com.sa), the ESET Distributor in Saudi Arabia. Zedan Solutions has been working to raise awareness of ESET in the Kingdom while a proper channel is put in place. The explosive growth in the popularity of ESET’s NOD32 antivirus software across the Middle East has taken many by surprise. ESET’s success is also due at least in part to ESET Smart Security, which was launched in Saudi Arabia in late 2007.
“We always knew this was going to be a successful product, but even we were not expecting the phenomenal rate of take-up across the region,” said Brian Hawley, GM, Zedan Solutions. “Some very large and prestigious organizations have already made the switch to ESET. Right now we are playing catch-up to some extent as we appoint additional channel partners and resellers in the Kingdom. Most of the big-name IT companies and a good number of high-quality medium-sized VARs already carry the product range and have had some excellent sales, but this market is truly enormous. Every single PC needs antivirus software. The choice is not whether to buy or not; simply which brand. Thanks to ESET NOD32 coming out top in almost every independent review of antivirus software, it is increasingly the product chosen by informed users. To meet this massive demand, we are now actively seeking new channel partners who are able to meet our high standards for customer-support.”
ESET Smart Security includes NOD32, an anti-spam package and a firewall in the same application. Because of this, the memory footprint and CPU loading are scarcely larger than NOD32 alone, and the speed remains excellent. There is also a new interface. The earlier interface was very powerful, but a little “geeky” for home users. The new interface is clean, simple and obvious; but there is also a “geek” button to open up the entire range of internal settings for the power users who want to tweak and tune everything. NOD32, which also benefits from the new interface, is still available separately if required.
