JEDDAH, 13 June 2008 — Saudi Arabian Marketing Agencies Co. Ltd. (SAMACO) unveiled the new Volkswagen Tiguan, a compact sports utility vehicle (SUV), at a ceremony held at its showroom here yesterday.

“We expect the Tiguan to take the Kingdom’s market by storm after it has aroused enormous interest around the world,” SAMACO’s National Sales Manager Ashraf El Feki said. “With its launch, the new Tiguan from the German car maker has marked its entry into the compact SUV segment for the first time, which makes this a very special launch for us. So far, the Tiguan has attracted an enormous amount of interest worldwide and we are confident it will generate the same across the Kingdom.”

Describing the car’s key attributes, El Feki said: “One of the main characteristics of the Tiguan is its versatility. It is recommended for drivers who enjoy the individual appearance and flexibility of a SUV and also expect a premium level of comfort, agility and variability.”

The chassis of the Tiguan sets new standards in the world of SUVs as it is “extremely driving-active and safe.” For the first time on the global SUV market all engines are charged without exception, which deliver powerful propulsion just above the idling speed. Upon request, the Tiguan can be parked nearly automatically in the urban jungle by the “Park Assist” feature. “Off-road, on the other hand, the latest radio-navigation system (RNS 510) navigates its occupants back to civilization using its off-road function,” he added.

“The new Tiguan is our biggest launch for the region this year. Driving enthusiasts both in the Kingdom and the wider Gulf region will enjoy a unique driving experience that combines the driving comfort and convenience of a sedan with significant off-road capabilities,” Fathy A. Allam, Volkswagen Middle East’s regional sales manager, said.

For the first time in the SUV segment, buyers of the new Tiguan can choose from two different front ends.

Hans-Dieter Keller, managing director of Volkswagen at the Audi Volkswagen Middle East FZE, Dubai Airport Free Zone, said the new Tiguan was introduced in Germany earlier this year.
