JEDDAH: Mohammed Badahdah, assistant secretary-general of the World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY), has publicized a book entitled “Mercy: Prophet Muhammad’s Legacy to All Creation” by giving a copy to Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayya, former education minister of Mauritania and a professor at King Abdulaziz University.
Badahdah said the book, written by Ibrahim Hussein Malabari, a Canadian Islamic scholar of Indian origin and director of the Islamic Center in Toronto, is significant as it comes at a time when Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) has been unfairly accused of promoting violence and extremism.
“The publication of this book in English gives it an added value as it will help English-speaking people all over the world to know how merciful the Prophet was,” Badahdah said. He hoped the book would be translated into other languages such as French, Spanish and Russian.
Bin Bayya, a leading Islamic scholar and author and winner of the King Muhammad VI Prize for Islamic Thought and Studies, said the book “Mercy” was published at the right time and hoped it would contribute to removing the misconceptions of non-Muslims about the Prophet. He praised Malabari for the good work.
In his speech, Malabari said he wrote the book after conducting considerable research at McGill University in Canada.
He said he had told stories from the life of Prophet in order to disprove the allegations made by enemies against him over the years.
He said he wanted to distribute thousands of copies of the book among people in the West in order to remove the misconceptions they have about the Prophet as a result of the strident smear campaigns of Islam’s enemies. Prominent Islamic scholars have commended Malabari’s work. “This book is unique, novel in presentation and simple in style,” said Yousuf Al-Qaradawi, president of the International Federation for Muslim Scholars. “The Prophet’s mercy is demonstrated in his life and teachings.”
He exemplifies mercy in all situations. He hates harshness, denounces roughness and violence, and prescribes softness in everything,” Al-Qaradawi wrote in a foreword to the book, published by Compass Books in Toronto.
Jamal Mohiyuddin Alwaye presided over the function. A. Farook welcomed the guests while K.T. Abubacker gave a vote of thanks.
