JEDDAH: The cast and producer of the new Gulf series “Umm Al-Banat” (“Mother of Daughters”), which takes place in Kuwait, promise the new work is going to be different from other regional serials. “The writer of the work, Heba Hamada, has succeeded in keeping the story realistic so it reflects real problems and traditions in (Kuwaiti) society,” said director Aref Al-Taweel. “‘Umm Al-Banat’ contains fresh, beautiful themes that deserve to be discussed during the month of Ramadan. Heba wrote a similar drama — ‘Abla Nura’ — and I think that the new work will draw new audience.”
Ali Al-Sabae, one of the actors in the series, said that he is happy to work with Suad Abdullah, the Kuwaiti veteran actress. “When they offered me a role in ‘Umm Al-Banat’ I was very happy because I would be working with Suad Abdullah. It is an honor for all actors to work with her,” said Al-Sabae, who plays the role of the brother of Suad’s character in the series. “My character has a strong personality outside the house but a very weak one inside the house. In the serial I team up with my sister’s husband against her.”
Serials in the Middle East are produced for release during Ramadan, when families gather each night during the holy month to watch the latest productions.
