TAIF: The Taif municipality yesterday closed down 27 food stores in different parts of the city for failing to follow health and safety regulations following surprise inspections.

Municipal Chairman Muhammad Al-Mukhrij said his officers also issued warnings to the owners of a number of other stores, asking them to quickly comply with necessary regulations.

He said the municipality has set out a plan to inspect shopping centers, food stores, shops, petrol stations and trade facilities this summer. “We’ll impose the maximum punishment on violators. We won’t show any leniency toward anyone who tampers with the health of citizens and residents,” said Al-Mukhrij.

He urged citizens to call 742-5210 or 940 to report violations of health and safety regulations.
