RIYADH: Experts from the Middle East, the US and Europe are to attend a three-day conference on how to combat crime on Monday at Riyadh’s Al-Faisaliah Hotel.
The conference, entitled “Scientific Forum on Combating Computer Crime”, is being held with the support of Second Deputy Premier and Interior Minister Prince Naif and has been organized by the Bureau of Investigation and Prosecution (BIP) in collaboration with Naif Arab University for Security Sciences.
The event aims to establish ways of protecting against computer crime, and provide an opportunity for researchers, interested people and professionals to meet and discuss matters of concern regarding computer-related crimes and how to control it.
A number of government officials and representatives from the justice ministries of GCC countries are also expected to attend the forum. Outlining the salient features of the three-day forum, organizers said that the event would detail the characteristics of computer-related crimes, types of perpetrators and their characteristics, and presents examples of computer-related crimes in the Arab world with a particular focus on GCC states.
The organizers added that the conference aims to shed light on the seriousness of computer-related crimes as a direct threat not only to the information, but also to the region’s economies, and cultural and social affairs.
The event will also provide details on scientific developments in combating computer crime and examine the future shape of these crimes.
The forum is being held in response to the increased usage of computers in the region and will also encourage participants to share their experiences.
