Ittihad, Ohud maintain winning run in Saudi STC Basketball League

JEDDAH: The top four unbeaten teams with six win faced each other this weekend.

The Madinah giants Ohud and Ansar played Thursday night at home with Ohud winning 78-70 their first meeting of the season.

In a thrilling encounter Ohud sent Ansar back to the locker room to come up with some answers before their next meeting.

Back in Jeddah on Friday night Al-Ittihad faced Al-Ahli for their first time this season. Ittihad started strong with a combination of inside and outside play taking a 25-12 lead in the first period. At halftime Ittihad led 43-27.

Ittihad used their bench players with the veterans for the rest of the game and took first place in the league winning 89-65.

Ittihad’s import, Roselle was the top scorer with 24 points. Jaber Al Kabri was next with 19, and Ali Mugraby hit 12.

Khaled Falatah was high man for Ahli with 5 three-pointers and a total of 19 points. Ittihad’s President Dr. Khaled Marzouki was on hand to encourage the team and was pleased with the win.

This year Ittihad has a strong bench and a big front line and dominated in the paint all game. Ittihad takes over first place with Ohud also 7 wins no losses in the No. 2 spot.

Ansar and Ahli with six wins and one loss each are third and fourth respectively.

Hilal has the fifth spot with 5 wins and 2 losses. Next are Wehdah, Nasser, Masera and Fath all with 2 wins and 5 losses. Jubail, Nahdah and Kahlij with a win and six down.

The Prince Fasial Cup Basketball Tournament is underway with four quarterfinal games on Monday.

In Jeddah Ahli takes on Fath at 4 p.m. at the Prince Abdullah Al Fasial Gym.

Hilal meets Wehdah in Riyadh. Ittihad goes against Ohud in Madinah and Ansar meets Masera.

There are no import players allowed in the Prince Fasial Cup, Saudi players only. The semifinals and final will be this weekend in Madinah. Check your local sports channel for the games.
