Zaid Ibrahim claimed Wednesday that he was a victim of vote buying and other irregularities by the ruling party.
He lost Sunday's election by around 1,700 votes to the ruling National Front coalition. The Parliamentary seat in the rural Hulu Selangor constituency was held by an opposition lawmaker who died last month, resulting in a special election.
Zaid alleged that “blatant bribery” by Prime Minister Najib Razak's campaign workers tainted the election.
An aide to Najib said Zaid's claim was baseless and a “typical opposition cry.”
