Faqir Hussain stabbed himself to death on April 23, Alkhobar police spokesman Lt. Mohammad Al-Shehri said on Tuesday.
The police statement is expected to end intense speculation within the expatriate community that foul play may have played a part in his death. Hussain’s suicide had been a major talking point among the community for the last few days.
One of the reasons for the intense speculation was the violent manner in which Hussain ended his life.
He stabbed himself in the stomach seven times with a kitchen knife at around 7 a.m. on that fateful Friday morning.
He was rushed to government hospital in Alkhobar and died a couple of hours later. His body was later moved to the morgue in Dammam Central Hospital.
Pakistani community elders had described Hussain as a well-qualified and pious man. He was in his mid-40s and was a graduate of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) in Lahore.
A family man, he was a father of three sons, two of whom are pursuing higher studies in Pakistan. The third is enrolled at a local school.
Hussain and his family have been in the Kingdom for more than seven years and have a large circle of friends.
Last week Hussain’s relatives told Abdul Ghaffar, the Pakistani Embassy’s legal representative in Alkhobar, that he had shown signs of depression in the days leading to his suicide.
