Wilfried Siegele, a spokesman for the Innsbruck public
prosecutor’s office, says the investigation was launched last month after the
hospital in the town of St. Johann in Tyrol province alerted authorities about
the June 16 incident.
Local media reported Friday that the woman, who has not been
identified, ended up losing both legs since doctors later also had to amputate
her sick limb — the one that should have been removed initially.
A hospital representative could not be reached for comment.
