Hassan Younis was quoted on Friday by the official Middle East News Agency as saying the project will cost about $700 million and will be financed by the World Bank and the African Development Fund.
Younis said the photovoltaic power plant will be built in Kom Ombo, near the Aswan High Dam hydroelectric plant in southern Egypt. Egypt is pushing to base more of its energy needs on renewable sources.
It has plans for another solar plant in El-Koraymat, south of the capital, and is working to develop wind power along its eastern Red Sea coast.
