Speaking to the media, Dixit said, “The round the clock policing on public security duty and on the roads and being fully prepared to counter and foil any criminal act, has contributed to Nagpur being a secure city. Crime is increasing in all big cities. I forcefully claim that Nagpur is the only city in the country that has kept the crime graph under control. Let anyone examine my claim.”
“Criminals are always on the lookout for an opportunity. If they find policemen occupied at one end, then the criminals strike at the other end. Therefore it has become absolutely necessary to enforce security checks round the clock at different places to keep criminals in check. Due to this people are inconvenienced, and this point is accepted. But on the other hand such checks help in keeping the crime situation under control,” the police chief added.
“The present socio-economic situation is responsible for the increase in crime. While at one hand there is a growth in the number of rich people, and at the other end the economic situation of the economic weaker section people has not improved. Family management has completely collapsed. The parents today are not concerned as to what their children are doing or where they go,” Dixit stated.
“Now even the children of the rich feel the pinch of money to fulfill their ‘desires.’ There are examples where these children of the rich had been involved in robbery. After taking note of all these situations, it was necessary to deploy policemen on the roads,” Dixit said.
Expressing his disappointment with the media, Dixit said, “There is no bar on the criticism by the media against the police. They should do it. But at the same time they should see the situation themselves and also relay a positive message to the people that the administration is solidly behind the common people.”
