There are now five health centers inside the mosque in total.
“There are also another five health centers in the mosque’s courtyards. All 10 facilities will work around the clock to provide treatment to visitors of the Haram during the fasting month,” Dr. Khaled bin Obaid bin Zafar, director of health affairs in Makkah, said on Tuesday.
Zafar was talking after the approval of this year’s health plan for visitors of the Grand Mosque during the holy month.
“In addition, the 29 permanent health centers in Makkah will also receive sick pilgrims. In times of need, all hospitals in Makkah, Jeddah and Taif will be open for pilgrims and visitors,” he added.
The five health centers inside the Haram are located by the lower and upper doors of the Ajyad, doors 64 and 94 of the King Fahd extension and the upper door at Al-Nadwa.
Zafar said under the health plan, intensive care units and emergency wards in all general hospitals in Makkah would pool their resources to cope with the growing number of pilgrims.
In order to reduce the burden on other hospitals, Avicenna Hospital will be solely dedicated to treating patients with chronic diseases, the director said.
He said the plan emphasized the role of the Kingdom’s entry and exit points in monitoring pilgrims and visitors suffering from contagious diseases.
Zafar stressed that his department was fully prepared to combat any diseases that might result from the soaring heat.
