One-year-old Eilan is currently being supported by machines in the Maternity and Children’s Hospital in Taif.
Al-Madinah newspaper reported that the hospital is not equipped to treat her condition and none of the other specialist hospitals in the Kingdom is ready to accept her.
Her father, Badr Al-Zahrani, said the problems with his daughter started the moment she was born.
“The hospital refused to deliver her by C-section and insisted on using a sucking device instead. Since she was born, my baby daughter could not move her limbs and has difficulty breathing,” he said.
The father was astonished that Eilan has remained for a year in the hospital without being treated.
“If the hospital does not have the capability for treating such cases, why doesn’t it refer her to some other advanced and well-equipped hospitals?”
Al-Zahrani said doctors in the hospital made it clear to him that they simply do not have the facilities to treat her and that she has to be moved to another advanced hospital.
He wanted an investigation into the case so someone would take responsibility for her deteriorating health.
Spokesman for the Health Affairs Department in Taif, Saeed bin Abdullah Al-Zahrani, said many of the specialist hospitals they talked to had apologized for not accepting her. “There is nothing much we can do,” he said.
