First was the end-of-Ramadan rush on Thursday night. Traffic went haywire as it seemed every resident of Jeddah was out trying to complete last-minute Eid shopping.
Cars were seen parked behind other cars far into the lane of traffic as their drivers would run in for just a quick few items from the grocery store or tailor — never mind the honking and the braying of frustrated denizens trying themselves to do the same.
Speaking of tailors: How did paying the extra SR100 Eid-special-price for your thobe feel? Indeed, as the demand for new threads grew as Eid approached, so did the price of tailors' services. Barbershops, too, across the city witnessed quarrels between customers as they thronged the saloons for Eid trims. The price for a haircut on Thursday night was, of course, higher than usual as well.
