The long-standing coach warned that no one can underestimate the Africans at the Games as they will be unknown quantity.
"We now have the strongest squad ever, all 10 boxers have good stamina and they have the caliber to beat any boxer on the earth. Therefore, I am highly hopeful of getting at least three gold medals," he said.
Fernandes, who has been training Indian boxers since 1991, said: "After the Beijing Olympics (in 2008), we have observed a remarkable improvement in the boys. They are more mature and confident and they are hitting at the right places to make sure of medals."
He, however, refused to take names, saying he has no favorites, all are good boxers.
"I am expecting good results from all the boxers. If I name any particular boxer, at this juncture, it would be unfair." he pointed out.
Fernandes also praised African boxers and said they can pose a tough challenge.
"We have very good boxers from Africa, England and Nigeria, and I think that some African boxers can really surprise us. There are two-three boys in all participating African countries, who are really hungry for medals, so we can expect a very tough challenge from them. In fact this is going to be the toughest boxing competition ever in the Commonwealth," said Fernandes.
While comparing his home country with India, in the arena of boxing, Fernandes said, "Cuba has produced world-class boxers till date but under no circumstances we can compare Cuba with India. Cuba is a small country with very meager resources and there is very little support for boxing. In India, we have huge resources to nurture the young talent."
Fernandes said that he would like to continue his tenure with Indian boxers and has started working for the 2012 London Olympics.
"Though I have to stay away from my family I have started enjoying this routine. I am loving Indian weather, people and their hospitality. All boys are very cooperative and there is very fine tuning among us," said Fernandes.
"I have no problems with the boxing federation and I am very happy with the facilities provided to me and to the boxers. I would certainly like to continue my tenure. We are expecting a good performance in the Asian Games, in November this year. Besides we have already started our training, keeping in mind the London Olympics," said Fernandes.
