“We would like to thank the Kingdom for its prompt and generous support toward flood relief efforts in Pakistan,” Pakistan Consul General Abdul Salik Khan said while presiding over an Aalami Urdu Markaz-sponsored meeting to demonstrate solidarity for flood-hit people back home.
Markaz President Athar Abbasi welcomed the consul general and chief guests Mutahir Rizvi and Syed Ehsanul Haque, both Markaz's advisory council members. Local poets and speakers also addressed the audience. Hamid Islam Khan anchored the proceedings.
The poets who paid tributes to their homeland and expressed solidarity with their Pakistani brothers included Mohammad Nawaz Janjua, Zamurrud Saifi, Qamar Haider Qamar, Naseem-e-Sehar, Naeem Bazedpuri and Athar Abbasi. Sher Afzal Khan recited a poem of Allama Mohammad Iqbal.
Amir Khurshid revisited the ideological basis of Pakistan. Representing the third generation of the country, he called for unity among all provinces.
Dr. Irfan Hashmi elaborated the larger meaning of the word unity and said that reforms and accountability were the prerequisites of a better Pakistan.
Markaz presented shields to Hamid and the consul general in appreciation of their extraordinary support toward its activities.
