The MQM, a partner in PPP-led coalition, changed its stance
following unprecedented flooding which resulted in the dislocation of some 20 million
people, mostly peasants, in Pakistan.
The bill, tabled by MQM deputy convenor Farooq Sattar and
other party legislators, is aimed at ending feudalism in Pakistan.
The
bill suggests that ownership of agricultural land should be restricted to 36
acres and holding of rain-fed land should be limited to a maximum of 54 acres.
