"They are the first two cases detected so far this year. Both were treated promptly and one woman was soon discharged. The second is still in hospital, but her condition is stable," a statement from the ministry said.
It added that both women caught the virus before they arrived in the Kingdom.
The ministry also confirmed that a 41-year-old African woman had become the first cholera case in Saudi Arabia.
"The patient was immediately given treatment, while the group she was with was also tested,” it said.
Considering these cases as normal, ministry spokesman Dr. Khalid Al-Mirghalani said that the overall health situation among pilgrims and residents in Makkah and Madinah was under control.
"We can assure you that the health of pilgrims and residents is very good and that health authorities have deployed all resources to face any health related emergencies," he said.
The ministry urged both residents and pilgrims to take steps to maintain basic hygiene and follow the ministry’s health instructions and measures, as communicated to them through the media or at their camps.
