The man, who is in his 40s, was arrested while trying to channel the cash into his personal account.
“The man was brought to the notice of the police after the owners of the company noticed irregular activities in its accounts,” said Col. Misfer Al-Juaid, spokesman for the Jeddah police. “The man is being held at Al-Safa Police Station pending investigations,” he added.
Meanwhile, five Indonesians were arrested for forging documents at a rented apartment in the city’s Aziziyah district. “We were able to capture all five men red-handed. We found a number of forged iqamas and driving licenses in the apartment,” said Al-Juaid.
He added that all of the five men are currently in police custody while investigations continue.
Police in Makkah also arrested a Pakistani man in his 80s, who had arrived in the Kingdom on a Haj visa on suspicion of stealing over SR500,000 and over 100 cell phones from several people.
Officers in the holy city received an anonymous tipoff about the man, who was staying at a pilgrim accommodation in the Shawqiyah area of the city.
“Makkah police were immediately dispatched to the area to investigate the matter. When the suspect became aware of police presence he tried to flee, but was eventually captured with the money,” said Makkah Police spokesman Maj. Abdul Mohsen Al-Maiman.
He added that the cash and mobile phones have been seized while investigations continue.
