The company that runs the tower says Paris' most-visited tourist site didn't open Wednesday morning, and the strikers have begun an open-ended walkout that could keep it closed for days. A spokeswoman for the tower declined to specify the reason other than to say it was prompted by the suspension of a supervisor as a precautionary measure.
The spokeswoman was not authorized to be publicly named. The tower is open every day but has been shut several times recently for a bomb alert, intense snowfall and a nationwide strike against raising the retirement age. The tower recorded nearly 7 million visits last year.
