Apart from these three leaders who are spearheading the
anti-nuclear plant project in Jaitapur, the administration also issued
externment notices to seven others.
Opposition to the Jaitapur nuclear plant has gained
momentum after the recent visit of Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan
to the plant. The local residents in Jaitpur received a moral boost after the
Republic Party of India (RPI) extended support to the parties opposing the
nuclear project.
In anticipation of Shiv Sena Working President Uddhav
Thackeray likely to visit the troubled plant site and holding anti-government
rally, the district administration has clamped prohibitory orders banning
assembly of four and more persons in Jaitapur.
The police are continuing arrests of anti-nuclear plant
activists and leaders. Earlier the police have arrested several activists and
now the police have served ban orders on Justice Patil, Justice Sawant and
Vaishali Patil, prohibiting their entry into Ratnagiri district.
The police have also served notices on seven activists
from the district on charges of causing interference in the working of the
Jaitapur power plant, threatening the plant workers, and provoking the local
residents against the nuclear plant. The seven have been asked to be present
before the Sub Divisional Magistrate on Monday and present their say as to why
they should not be externed from the district.
Meanwhile keeping in mind the strong opposition to the
nuclear project, the police have sealed several points of entry to the project
site. The arrests of more leaders cannot be ruled out.
