Although the new BMW 6 Series retains its strong characteristic lines, it has been restyled with a refined modern design. Nader Faghihzadeh, responsible for the exterior design of the vehicle, was heavily influenced by the way water runs over a surface. "Waves will form and create a kind of geometry that goes extremely well with the Series 6. (They) translate well into surfaces, they always have a clear direction and a naturally elegant flow."
Anees Jamjoom, general manager at MYNM, said: "Convertible models are important for us as they reiterate the aesthetic appeal and sportiness of the BMW brand. The new generation 6 Series will add a new chapter to a tradition of impressive BMW open-top cars that stretches back decades - and we have no doubt that it will be a popular addition to our portfolio.
The new Beamer is certainly a feast for the eye with a characteristic “shark nose” supporting the traditional kidney shaped grille. Under the skin, it is built for efficiency. The car has electric steering that engages only when the steering wheel is actually turned; kinetic energy generation uses the alternator to charge the battery during braking and a host of other electronic driving aids.
Perhaps the most useful is the very advanced full color HUD (head up display) developed for fighter aircraft and now transferred to earthbound vehicles. The display creates the illusion of images that float over the end of the car's hood and effectively eliminate eye movement from road to instrument panel.
The interior reflects BMW's attention to detail and quality with the instruments. The convertible takes 19 seconds to open the soft-top and 24 seconds to close it, a feat that can be achieved at speeds up to 40 kph. The roof of the new convertible takes just 19 seconds to open and closes within 24 seconds. Both operations can be activated while on the move at speeds of up to 40 kph.
The new convertible is available in the Kingdom with two engine variants: 650i and 640i, which offer more power and more fuel efficiency than their predecessors. The eight-cylinder power unit in the BMW 650i Convertible produces 407 hp and the BMW 640i Convertible generates 320 hp. Both engines come with BMW TwinPower Turbo power, direct fuel injection and Valvetronic technologies team come as standard with an eight-speed Sports automatic gearbox.
Despite the undoubted luxury and the vast array of electronic gadgetry in the car, it is still a driver's car at heart and this will be the strong selling point for the new entry into the Kingdom's premium car sector.
