The suspects, led by a 31-year-old ringleader, used to sell their services to illegal residents in the city, police said.
The group’s leader was also charged with attempting to bribe an officer with SR40,000 to release all the members and close the case.
“The policeman’s dignity and bravery resulted in a successful ambush for the five gang members that stopped their illegal operations in the city. The suspects were under close surveillance by police investigators for a while and all members are now in custody at the Kandarah police station until investigations complete,” said spokesman for Jeddah police Brig. Misfer Al-Juaid.
Meanwhile, four former employees at a local poultry distributing company were arrested in the Al-Safah district. The suspects, who are of Filipino nationality, were arrested for selling their company’s products for their own personal gain.
Police said the four hauled, distributed and sold frozen chicken from their former company’s freezers and made food distribution deals with local restaurants without the company’s knowledge.
“The four suspects are currently being held in Al-Nuzha police station jail. After investigations are complete, their case will be transferred to the concerned authorities,” said Brig. Misfer Al-Juaid.
An Indonesian national in his 20s was arrested in south Jeddah’s Ma'aard district, suspected of stealing steel cables from a Pakistani national’s house, police said.
“The victim discovered the cables missing when he reached home and contacted the police,” said Al-Juaid.
