Tourist Police Maj. Gen. Adis Ngamjitsuksri said Friday the Britons, Americans, Canadians, Australians and Filipinos made calls from an office in Bangkok to lure money from people overseas. Boiler room operations sell shares at inflated prices, or in nonexistent companies, usually for high commissions.
Adis said the operation was active for almost a year and defrauded investors of more than 100 million baht ($3.3 million). Many complaints were from Australia.
He said the 20 will be charged for not having Thai work permits and might face fraud charges.
