In New York, Eric Hosmer
hit his first career homer then delivered the go-ahead sacrifice fly in the
11th inning to lift Kansas City over New York.
Hosmer's homer was a soaring shot into the second deck in
right field in the fourth inning. Wilson Betemit had a tying RBI single in the
eighth for Kansas City and Jeff Francoeur drove in a run during the 10th
inning.
Royals closer Joakim Soria (3-0) allowed an equalizing
RBI single in the bottom half of the 10th to blow the save but did pick up the
win.
Buddy Carlyle (0-1) got the loss.
In Anaheim, Chicago's
Alexei Ramirez scored the tie-breaking run from third base when Los Angeles
reliever Kevin Jepsen threw a wild pitch during an intentional walk in the 10th
inning.
Jepsen (0-2) embarrassingly sailed a throw over the head
of catcher Henk Conger, who had stood up to take the four intentional balls,
and Ramirez raced home to cap the White Sox rally from a three-run deficit.
Adam Dunn, who homered among his career-high four hits,
scored on Brent Lillibridge's 10th-inning sacrifice fly to add another run.
Omar Vizquel had an RBI double in the eighth and a tying
sacrifice fly in the ninth for the White Sox, who stranded a season-high 15.
A.J. Pierzynski had four hits and drove in a run during Chicago's ninth-inning
rally.
Sergio Santos (2-0) allowed one hit over two innings to
take the win. Matt Thornton pitched the 10th for his first save.
In Toronto, John McDonald homered
to help Toronto defeat Boston.
Rajai Davis had four hits for the Blue Jays, who pounded
struggling Boston starter John Lackey (2-5), who lost his third straight start
and matched a season-worst by allowing nine runs. He walked a season-high five
and struck out only one.
Toronto's Jesse Litsch (4-2) allowing three runs in 5 2-3
innings, walking just one and striking out four.
In Baltimore, Chris Tillman
pitched six impressive innings to guide Baltimore past Seattle.
Adam Jones went 4 for 4 with two RBIs for the Orioles.
Tillman and Jones were both traded from the Mariners to
Baltimore in 2008 as part of a five-player deal that sent pitcher Erik Bedard
to Seattle.
Tillman (2-3) gave up one run in his first start against
the Mariners, striking out five.
Seattle's Felix Hernandez (4-3) allowed seven hits in
five innings.
In Minneapolis, Detroit notched its
fifth straight win by downing Minnesota.
Brandon Inge's RBI triple off the center field wall in
the ninth inning off Twins closer Matt Capps (1-2) scored Ramon Santiago.
Jhonny Peralta had a pinch-hit, two-run homer in the
eighth inning and Victor Martinez went 3 for 4 with a homer and three RBIs for
the Tigers, extending his hitting streak to 11 games.
