Despite all the efforts made by society for the disabled in the Kingdom, there are still severe shortcomings in the services provided to them. I have gained enough experience in this regard through dealing with my son, who has a certain disability.
Do you know that disabled people cannot get a medical insurance at birth? Insurance companies do not accept them, no matter how wealthy the parents are. Where is the health insurance council? No answer. No care. There are only few people. Let’s not preoccupy ourselves with their problems, given that we are healthy – thank God!
Fixing an appointment for a disabled child in any government hospital is an ordeal. The means of transport for the disabled are not always available. If parents with healthy children sometimes get irritated by them, how must it be when those children are disabled?
We do not have a single classroom in any school that is equipped for disabled students. Needless to say, there are no special toilets for them either. I will not continue to point out these shortcomings, but, instead, I would like to present the following suggestions:
• Specify the exact number of disabled people in all parts of the Kingdom.
• Compel insurance companies to cover disabled people since birth.
• Build special hospitals for disabled in each region.
• Build well-equipped schools for them.
• Establish a service office for disabled people in each government department.
• Double their monthly payment so as to ensure them with an honorable life.
• Set up a high authority for people with special needs to look after their affairs in government ministries and departments.
