Zachary Robarge played lead alto saxophone in Pittsfield High School's concert and jazz bands and was a member of the school's Peace Jam team.
The Daniel Pearl Berkshire Scholarship is named for the former chief of the Wall Street Journal’s South Asia bureau who was kidnapped and murdered in Pakistan in January 2002 while researching a story on extremists.
The $1,000 scholarship was established by the North Adams Transcript and The Berkshire Eagle, the two western Massachusetts newspapers where Pearl started his journalism career. It is awarded to a senior who plans to major in journalism or music, Pearl’s two passions.
