Hassan Al-Homaid was caught harassing girls at their school at the town of Ohad Rafidah in Asir province by the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (Haia) and handed over to police.
Nabeel, his father, doubted the credibility of the postmortem because it did not mention the head injuries caused by alleged cruel beatings at the Haia center.
He said he planned to appeal to the Asir governorate and higher authorities in a bid to secure a thorough investigation into the matter.
Al-Homaid told Arab News that the medical report, which he received 34 days after the body was sent to a mortuary, attributed the death to the failure of a vital nerve in the brain and did not refer to any head injury or signs of torture.
He added that his son was in good health and never complained about any disease, including headaches or asthma.
He said he wanted revenge for his son and to bring those allegedly responsible for his death to justice. “There won’t be any meaning to my life if justice is not done to my son who was well behaved and most helpful to parents,” he said, tears dripping down his cheeks.
He said many people did not approve of his efforts to find out the truth behind his son’s death.
Nabeel had earlier told the media that his son’s head was shaved after the arrest and he passed out after a severe beating. A cleaning laborer and a friend later took him to hospital where he died.
Spokesman for the Haia in Asir Awad Al-Asmari denied any criminal involvement.
“The Jordanian youth was handed to police after he was caught harassing girls. His father wanted to settle the case through mediation and so he brought the youth to the Haia center. The youth looked very tired but refused to go to hospital. He then went away with his father. His head was not shaved nor was he ill-treated,” he said.
