Speaking to the media here on Tuesday, RSS worker
Dada Idate alleged that Singh had accused the RSS of making bombs and of a possible role in the recent serial blasts in Mumbai.
“Singh’s allegation that the RSS is making bombs is
totally baseless and fabricated. It appears that Singh has a habit of making
statements against the RSS and Hindus to appease Muslims. Singh only makes
such statements as instructed by the Congress high command. We are also
consulting legal experts if we can make the Congress President Sonia Gandhi a
party in our case,” Idate said.
The BJP too blasted Singh in a statement. BJP
spokesperson Ravi Prasad Singh said that Singh’s outbursts against the RSS was
only a desperate attempt to change the political discourse at a time when the
United Progressive Alliance was unable to shed the perception that it was soft
on terror.
Meanwhile, Suresh Khopade, who recently retired as
the special inspector general of police, Criminal Investigation Department of
Maharashtra police told Arab News on Tuesday that he had alerted the Mumbai
police about a possible bomb blast in Mumbai through a letter on March 19. “I
sent copies of my letter to the chief minister, home minister and director
general of police, and also to Mumbai Police Commissioner Arup Patnaik,”
Khopade claimed.
"In my
letter I also stated that the Mumbai police must carry on with community
policing which was discontinued some time back. The Scotland Yard was highly impressed
with the community policing model and decided to replicate it in the United
Kingdom,” Khopade claimed.
The
former top police official claimed that there were several lacunae in the
functioning of the Mumbai police and that is why bomb blasts, terrorist attacks
and riots take place.
