Al-Tuwaijri chaired a meeting attended by all Civil Defense commanders at the Civil Defense headquarters in Makkah on Monday. The meeting discussed all elements of the plan that will be executed from Tuesday.
Al-Tuwaijri said under the plan, 9,600 officers and privates supported by 1,440 vehicles and other machinery will be deployed in Makkah to ensure the safety of pilgrims and visitors.
He said Civil Defense forces will consist of mounted safety patrols and on-foot field teams, survey and monitoring teams, medical evacuation personnel and rapid intervention forces in addition to forces in the Grand Mosque.
Al-Tuwaijri said there would be five Civil Defense units covering all roads leading to the Haram in addition to five helicopters constantly surveying the holy city.
He said Makkah has been divided into nine areas according to population density which would be covered around-the-clock by Civil Defense personnel.
Al-Tuwaijri said preemptive inspections would continue on all buildings in Makkah throughout the year.
“A total of 6,538 facilities were inspected during the past six months," he said, adding that electricity was cut off from 160 violating buildings and 122 warehouses evacuated.
Al-Tuwaijri said there were 6,000 vacancies in the Civil Defense across 185 centers in various regions of the Kingdom.
