The planned project, called King Abdullah Project for Makkah Constructions, was prepared and presented by the Makkah and Holy Sites Development Authority (MHDA).
The project is scheduled to be completed in six years.
The project, which has been approved by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah, involves the development of unplanned neighborhoods in the city and plots of the Makkah Urban Development Administration.
The project also includes various strategies to ease traffic pressure, including pedestrian movement in the city and the holy sites, completion of the circular roads 1, 2, 3 and 4 and electronically controlled systems for signals in the Grand Mosque.
The project also includes the construction of tracks of a new metro system that will be linked to the Mashair Railway and the Al-Haramain Railway.
These projects were discussed and decisions were taken in a meeting of the MHDA chaired by Prince Khaled Al-Faisal. Those who attended the meeting included Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs Prince Mansour bin Miteb, Assistant Interior Minister for Security Affairs Prince Muhammad bin Naif, Finance Minster Ibrahim Al-Assaf, Haj Minister Fouad Al-Farsy, Mayor of Makkah Osama Al-Bar and President of the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques Saleh Al-Hussain.
