Kurt Westergaard declined Tuesday to give details, including whether police passed along a security threat.
But the 76-year-old has been repeatedly threatened since a 2005 Danish newspaper published cartoons of Muhammad, including one by him, that triggered protests in Muslim countries.
Norwegian police declined comment except to say Westergaard had been in Oslo on Monday.
Earlier, Norwegian media said he had suffered a heart attack and couldn’t attend a Tuesday book launch in Oslo. In Denmark, Westergaard said that story was “the official version” and that he’s fine.
