The semi-official Mehr news agency on Monday quoted Tehran mayor Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf as saying he has ordered the case to be submitted to the judiciary.
Iranian hard-liners have in the past charged Britain with illegal occupation of the land on which its embassy has stood from the 19th century, but this is the first time that an official has raised the case.
Earlier in September Iran detained and summoned a group of people for their alleged links to BBC’s Farsi-language service. Tehran accuses London of fomenting unrest in Iran, a charge Britain denies.
