The suspect, who was illegally staying in the country, kidnapped the teenager two months ago. The kidnap victim’s name was Yahya, 16, and he was from Sabya town.
The suspect demanded SR80,000 in ransom for the release of the boy, but nobody paid the ransom. He killed the boy when his demands were not met and left the body in Rijal Almae in Asir province, a location to the north of Jazan province, Al-Watan daily reported on Monday. The suspect befriended the boy through two relatives of the boy, a friend of the suspect said.
Detectives traced the suspect to Rijal Almae and arrested him after a brief gunfight. The suspect fired on the police after being cornered.
Police said the suspect had a criminal record and was jailed once. He was deported after his prison stint, but he returned to the Kingdom illegally.
The suspect said he abducted the boy with the help of a compatriot. The accomplice was arrested one month ago but he escaped from police custody after he was admitted to hospital for the treatment of bullet wounds in his leg.
