The demand was made at a meeting in which district officials and Al-Samer residents discussed the major issues of the neighborhood.
The members of the Jeddah Municipal Council and Chairman of the Al-Samer District Center Bassam Akhdar and director of the health center Ahmad Al-Khothami replied to the queries of the people.
The district residents said the present hospital was not only small but old and dilapidated.
The residents were furious about the lack of space in the hospital that resulted in crowding. They also complained about lack of parking facilities in the hospital causing traffic bottleneck on nearby roads.
Al-Khothami promised the people to study the issues and find acceptable solutions.
He said the hospital building was old and did not have the space to accommodate the average 400 people visiting the hospital daily.
He added that the hospital did not have shortage of staff as 80 medical and administrative personnel were working there in shifts.
Akhdar also agreed with the demands of the local people saying that he supported citizens’ legitimate demand for better primary health care facilities.
He said the Ministry of Health stipulated that the plot for a larger hospital should be supplied by the district authorities. He said the district center discussed with the residents their issues related to education, health and environment in addition to family issues every Friday.
