Al-Juma allegedly embezzled SR1 billion from 8,000 victims through bogus investments.
“Court ruling No. 244, which asked Al-Juma to reimburse all funds paid by the investors, liquidate all his fixed and mobile assets and appoint lawyer Saleh Abdullah Al-Naem as a financial controller to manage the accused’s assets, is still being considered by the court of appeals in Riyadh,” he said.
Al-Hamoud said even the ruling issued by the court to seize control over the assets of the defendant was not implemented because he had appealed the decision.
“Al-Juma has resorted to various means to obstruct the implementation of the decision to hand over custody of his assets to the court,” he said.
The lawyer said police in the Eastern Province insisted a representative from the administrative court should be present during the implementation of the decision because Al-Juma has accused government departments of being responsible for his financial losses. He said the court did not see any need for a representative and ruled that the presence of the financial controller was sufficient.
“This was a major difference which delayed execution of the court ruling. The case was submitted to the governorate to resolve and to order the imprisonment of Al-Juma,” Al-Hamoud said.
The lawyer claimed the defendant had exploited this delay and differences between the concerned government departments and tried to liquidate his fixed assets so it would not be covered by the ruling.
“Al-Juma sold a number of his luxurious cars, his companies in Sudan and a number of his other assets in the Kingdom,” he claimed.
The court of appeals in Riyadh finally rescinded its decision to seize control over the assets of the defendant.
His lawyer Yahya Al-Alkami commended the ruling and said the court was convinced with the evidence and documents he had presented to support his opinion that seizing the assets of his client would only harm the investors who might not be able to get their money back.
