It will be formally called the PMU-IEEE Student Branch. The US-based institute is a non-profit professional association headquartered in New York City and is dedicated to advancing technological innovation and excellence.
The PMU-IEEE Student Branch is expected to bring international recognition to the prestigious college.
Dilek Dustegor from the college of computer engineering and science at PMU has been named the branch’s faculty adviser. She will explore various avenues for optimum utilization of the new association to benefit the student community.
Zaina Al-Sukairi, an alumnus of PMU, said: “The official formation of the IEEE branch offers a good opportunity for students to take advantage of this internationally recognized institution to hone their skills.”
The PMU-IEEE Student Branch plans to form many affinity groups including a “Women in Engineering Group” besides organizing the IEEE regional student conferences to promote its activities.
The PMU-IEEE Student Branch welcomes students from any college interested in the latest developments in information technology.
IEEE members include engineers, computer scientists, software developers and IT professionals.
