An official source of the council said 360 complaints were about failure to provide treatment to insured people, 77 about not covering dependents of the insured, 50 about not insuring employees and 69 miscellaneous.
The source said 405 of these complaints were filed against medical insurance companies, 131 against employers and three against service providers.
He said the council resolved 461 cases and referred 60 of them to specialized committees. The rest were either still under process or canceled.
The source noted a number of loopholes in the medical insurance system and said due to these reasons the system would not be applied to Saudi citizens before it was thoroughly studied in the next five years.
Health Minister Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah was recently quoted as saying that the study to cover Saudis with the medical insurance system had come a long way.
A number of health officials have demanded that all Saudi citizens be covered by the medical insurance system. They believe such a step would save the government SR38 billion in medical treatment for citizens.
They also said the medical insurance of citizens would enable them to have high-quality medical treatment at any of the 140 private hospitals in the Kingdom.
