Quality name of the game

This year’s league wasn’t as exciting as people hoped it to be. The only surprising turn of events is the emergence of the new winners who competed viciously with the usual champions.
A big disappointment though, is our national team being knocked out way too early from the FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The question now is, how do we plan a better season for next year?
Definitely, it would be learning from this season’s mistakes — and the past ones too. We keep saying, we are overworking our athletes by scheduling more than a match a week. Quality is the name of the game, not quantity! Since the national team will not be competing in any big championship soon, why don’t we build a stronger league?
By overworking our athletes, we are producing weaker teams, hence, less interesting competitions every year. What we need is to have a long season that starts in September and ends in May. I suggest that the league alone last not less than 6 and a half months, not counting the breaks that we could face during the Haj holidays or when the national team competes for any championships.
Before I end this, I would like to thank Al-Hilal, Al-Ahli and Al-Ittihad for their very good performance in the Asian Champions League last week. Hooray for ranking first in their respective groups. May they keep up the good work until the last match next week. I would like to see them play second round matches at home.
