UN assistant secretary-general arrives for talks

United Nations assistant secretary-general Derek Plumbly discussed regional and international issues of common concerns with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah in Riyadh on Monday.
Plumbly, who is also the special Coordinator of the UN Secretary-General for Lebanon, was received in the Saudi capital by Prince Abdul Aziz, sources said, adding that he was accompanied by a delegation during the meeting. The UN diplomat discussed various issues as the world body and its diplomatic partners seek peace in the Middle East, and are determined to provide maximum support to reach comprehensive peace in the region.
One of the senior most diplomat from the UK, Plumbly’s main task at the helm of the UN’s Beirut-based political office in Lebanon, UNSCOL, is to help implement a 2006 Security Council resolution that ended that year’s conflict with Israel.
